Digital Imaging I -Spring 2012

GMD-217
"This course will examine the processes involved in using imaging software to create digital art. Fundamentals of digital image-editing, color manipulation, scanning, and image processing will be explored. "

Project #1-Self Portrait
Photoshop CS4
10" x 8"
Digital Imaging I
2/15/2012

Assignment: "Using only Photoshop, create a visual composition for print utilizing at least SIX separate elements from six DIFFERENT images (either gather on your own or use from our shared image gallery) in order to create a final image based on the "Self Portrait" theme. The main subject/focus should dominate the composition (fill most of the page) and contrast the background (be obviously separate)."

Project #2-Lucid Dreaming
Photoshop CS5
5" x 5" each
Digital Imaging I
3/19/2012

Assignment: "Using a dream as either a literal rendering or point of inspiration, create a triptych (three (3) separate compositions that relate to each other) using only Photoshop. Projects are open to creative interpretation but should loosely include the idea of time passing within the sequence. Think about establishing a narrative between the 3 images and always be aware of the elements and principles of art and design (proportion, balance, dominance, color, texture, movement, etc.) as you compose the 3 images to work together.

Conceptual development should include an exploration of multiple ideas, as well as multiple layout sketches of your strongest concepts. You could begin by looking at source imagery and using the photocopier to "compose", and then paste images together in your sketchbook (or of course you can draw). Each panel should be thoroughly explored in the sketchbook BEFORE the project is brought to the computer. "

Project #3-Psychedelic Earth Day Graphic
Photoshop CS5
Digital Imaging I
4/9/2012

---in progress---

Assignment: "For this project we're going to explore a particular style—the Psychedelic poster style of the '60s—and in that same style, create a graphic that could be used for Earth Day on a t-shirt, a canvas bag, a banner or anything really. The graphic that you create should have something to do with an environmental issue of your choosing (research this) and should be designed in a style reminiscent of the 60's psychedelic work."
